Compared to the rest of Europe, France is relatively inexpensive. If you’re careful you can stretch your dollars and have a wonderful time. For a less expensive way to stay, consider checking out a French gite. This is basically another word for a cottage and can be very economical. Besides the price, they are actually quite charming. Most of them go with a traditional bed and breakfast format. They usually have accommodations for two and a breakfast meal. Some of them offer multiple meals at a cheaper rate than if you went out for dinner. If this doesn’t sound like your style, you can always find a hotel to fit any budget.

What trip to France would be complete without a trip to Paris? Paris holds the most famous landmarks in France and arguably all of Europe. The best known of these is most likely the Eiffel Tower. When it was built in 1889, it was meant to be the tallest building in the world. Unknown to many, it was actually intended to stand for only 20 years. However, the government allowed it to remain longer as it was useful to them in radio communication. Fortunately for today’s world, it’s still standing strong. It can be seen from practically anywhere in the city. While it is an amazing sight from the ground, the best view is obviously from the top. The Eiffel Tower has three platforms that you can visit. The lower two have shops and restaurants while the top is mainly for the view. While there are tickets for all three levels, for about $8 you can ride the elevator all the way to the top. Do yourself a favor and don’t skip this world-renowned attraction.

Besides the Eiffel Tower, one of the most well-known places is probably The Louvre. This museum holds some of the most amazing pieces of art ever created, including The Mona Lisa. The glass pyramid in front is the center of much debate in the community. Many think it is a disgrace, while others love it. Check it out and decide for yourself.

Several historic churches are well worth a visit as well. Sacre Coure and the Cathedral of Notre Dame are huge tourist attractions in Paris. You can get a great view of the city from Sacre Coure. The Cathedral of Notre Dame was the setting for many historic events in the life of France. It was here that Napoleon was crowned emperor and here that Paris celebrated its emancipation from Germany. While the Cathedral was invaded in the French Revolution, it was later restored to its previous condition. It also gained more popularity as the setting for the book, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

One of the more unique places to visit in Paris has to be the Catacombs. In 1785, they started to stack skeletons in these catacombs below the city. While it may be spooky to walk through hundreds of real skeletons, many people do it every year with a flashlight in hand. Besides Paris, there are many other amazing areas within the country of France. The French Riviera offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Along the Mediterranean Sea are some amazing accommodations, not to mention you can get some great seafood meals.
