Customer Review: Could be bigger.
Rudy Maxa’s Smart Travels in Europe is an excellent companion to the PBS series of the same name. If you’re currently watching the show or have the opportunity to see it in the future, you’ll like this book.
As a stand alone travel guide, it is too small. Ten pages with photos are not enough to do London justice. Paris only claims eight pages. There are some good tips and web sites tucked into the chapters. The web sites are good for the additional research needed to locate information that isn’t included in the book. For example, there is a short paragraph about Oxford and one for Windsor in the chapter, Out of London. Neither shares any hints on what transportation options may be available for reaching these destinations. The lodging and restaurant recommendations are limited.
As a travel planning tool the information is a little too condensed, but as a guide to the TV series, this book does an outstanding job.
